 Rest your feet and grab a biscuit, if you feel like it.

Who I am
I'm lenticularstudy (both here and Dreamwidth), known as Rose Tinted Contact Lenses (or, if you're feeling friendly, feel free to call me Rose, which bears no relation to my real name). My AO3 username is TrulyCertain. This is my fandom journal. Cis, heterosexual, Brit female.

Comms where you might find meWhat I'm into
Well, you can get me (far too) talky on the subject of just about anything, but for now:

  • Most kinds of sci-fi, the majority of fantasy.

  • Anything BioWare in the past ten years or so - though mainly Dragon Age and Mass Effect, I admit, with a side ofJade Empire.

  • The games industry in general.

  • Mention Tomb Raider and I'm there (The Last Revelation was the first game I ever played, and I'm still fond of it).

  • NuWho (If you're asking, the Doctor I've got a soft spot for would have to be Ten). Still working on the Classic series; I'll get there someday.

  • '50s - '70s rock/pop. Rolling Stones, Small Faces, Aretha Franklin, some of David Bowie's work... well, most things in that time bracket.

  • British/English pop culture.

  • The works of Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett and Joss Whedon.

  • Star Trek: TOS and some of TNG, Spaced, Black Books, Chuck, Firefly, bits of Buffy and Angels.

  • A little of Batman (some of the popular storylines and comics, like Year One and Scott Snyder's stuff) and The Avengers (mainly MCU, my comics knowledge isn't the best).

Feel free to engage me in discussion about... well, anything (though I can't promise my knowledge isn't rusty on a few topics).

Why I'm here
I love the communities here, and I hang out in a few of 'em.  That's mainly what I keep this journal for. I like the atmosphere and practical layouts here. I also like fangirling.

Why I used to be here
I used to write fanfiction for Mass Effect and Dragon Age (both fandoms which I still have some involvement in), but that's stopped due to personal issues and concentration on my original work. The (fairly large) archive of that fanfiction, however, can be found at FF.net. A compilation of drabbles written for the Insanity Round at the Mass Effect comm and some SFW Kink Meme minifills can be found over here, at AO3, where I'm TrulyCertain.

This journal is seldom written in - it's pretty much just used for community stuff - but feel free to leave a comment or ask to be friended (I'm perfectly willing to oblige).

I think I've finally left behind fanfic for good. After a long-winded goodbye on FF.net, I only wrote a few occasional drabbles for the LJ masseffect community's Insanity Round, but even they're finished, I think.

It's complicated, and there are a lot of reasons, not all of which I can explain comfortably. Some of it's the quietness of the fandom; some of it's my unsureness of the legal ramifications of fanworks; some of it's personal and complicated. My focus is going to lie with my original work for... well, the future. The rest of it, anyway.

Here's what I posted at FF.net:

All of which is true, except that with the drabble collections it may be fifty-one stories now. I'm going to miss the characters I wrote about like hell - particularly Morgana and Alistair and John and Tali, who made my heart ache to write them - but it's time to move on.

All my fic is at FF.net (old series, old oneshots, multi-chapter stuff) and AO3 (drabbles and such), if you're interested, though it's safe to say that the "ongoing" stuff... isn't.

Thanks for your time.

{The gushing awfulness is intentional; it is a romance epic, after all (and a parody). Leliana does have a tendency to... dramatize, somewhat.
Pure silliness, not angsty (maybe if you squint?). During Armour.}

Dedication: karebear, for many interesting conversations on this topic.

{A pre-Blight, pre-Leliana's Song, Leliana/Marjolaine piece. Slightly angsty, set in Val Royeaux. Probably the only thing I've ever written that could be called femslash (though the angst outweighs any romance).}

For the sake of convenience - and after a few people mentioning it - I've decided to collect my Mass Effect one-shots into one (admittedly, very long) page. Well, two pages, each dedicated to a pairing I write, so, in this case, a Shep/Tali page and a Shep/Joker page. That'll be put up upon completion of both series.

Speaking of series completion... I'm pretty much at the end of all my ME2 material, and actually rather sad about it. Just a little post here to thank everybody who has read, reviewed, commented, lurked... Well, you've helped make the two series what they are.

Well, I somehow managed to get an invite code (from a kind soul over at dw_code_sharing) and here I am. Now to start transferring things from my old journal...

Some observations:
•I like the fact that the rich text editor here actually seems to work with my computer - before, I had to use the HTML editor - a true pain.
•DW is much faster than LiveJournal - incredibly so. When you've got hardware that isn't absolutely up-to-date, something like that can make the difference between enjoying your time there, browsing, etc. and giving up on blogging completely.
•I have a few years of experience with web design and CSS, but I'm still trying to get my head round the system. Therefore, no real custom site design yet.
•You don't seem to have to pay to use CSS here, which is a nice change from LJ.
